Café Wi‑Fi Passwords on the Wall Are Exhausting — We Switched to a Scan Card

Every lunch rush sounded the same: “What’s the Wi‑Fi?” someone shouted; someone else yelled a password with three symbols; a third person typed it wrong twice. The chalkboard password smeared by dessert.

We moved the guest network onto a scannable card. Staff still help when phones struggle, but most tables connect without a performance.

Why a QR beats a chalkboard

  • No shouting special characters across a busy room
  • Less time at the counter for non-order questions
  • Easier to rotate passwords without rewriting décor

How we set it up

  1. Create the payload with Wi‑Fi QR — SSID, password, and encryption matching the router.
  2. Choose Printable Design so the card shows network name and “Scan to connect,” not only a mysterious square.
  3. Print table-tent size. One per four-top is enough; two for long communal tables.
  4. Test with iOS and Android before the weekend rush.

Password rotation without chaos

When we rotate guest Wi‑Fi, we regenerate the QR the same day and swap tents before open. Old cards go in the bin—not the “maybe later” drawer.
